Minor Irrigation

  • Rehabilitated 10 tanks in Palugaswewa area

  • Rehabilitated 5 minor irrigation systems with catchment and command areas in Kahatagasdigiliya

  • Rehabilitated 10 minor irrigation systems with 250 acres of paddy fields in Tantirimale area

  • Rehabilitated 5 minor irrigation systems and developed watershed and command areas in Horowpothana

  • Renovated two anicuts to provide water for cultivation of paddy and other field crops in war affected areas

  • Provision of supplementary irrigation through 150 agro-wells

Cultivation Development in the Dry Zone

  • Developed nearly 800 paddy fields under minor irrigation systems

  • Provision of supplementary irrigation through Agro-wells for nearly 300 acres

  • Development of Plant nurseries in order to increase the supply of quality seeds and plants for small farmers

  • Demonstration (cultivation) plots to train and encourage farmers on organic farming

  • Eco-friendly cultivation through Agro-forestry

  • Promote dairy farming with more than 150 milk farmers (mostly women)

  • Establishment of milk collecting centres

  • Marketing Centres to support small farmers to sell their farm products directly to the customers

Support for Tsunami Victims

  • Provision of emergency assistance to affected families in Trincomalee and Batticaloa

  • Provision of food and non-food items for tsunami affected families

  • Seventy (70) permenant houses for 70 affected and displaced families in Trincomalee, Ampara and Galle districts

  • Livelihood development programs for affected families

Psychosocial Support Programs

  • Psychosocial support services for war and tsunami affected children and mothers

  • Psychosocial support has been extended to widows in project areas

 Poverty Reduction through Microfinance

  • Financial support to small farmers through microfinance even during the off cultivation season

More than 4,000 poor families live in war-affected, tsunami affected and dry zone are working with Abhimana.
